How security companies can choose a subcontracting partner
Winning more work than you can staff is a good problem. Here is how to choose a subcontractor that protects your contract and your reputation.

Most security companies need extra officers at some point: a new contract mobilising, holiday and sickness, or a client asking for more hours at short notice. The right subcontracting partner fills the gap without putting your contract at risk.
Six things to check before you subcontract:
- Licensing: every officer must hold the right SIA licence for the role. Ask for licence numbers before the first shift and check them on the public SIA register.
- Right to work: ask how the partner checks right to work for every officer.
- Control and welfare: ask how officers book on and off, and how lone workers are checked during the shift.
- Reporting: you need clear occurrence logs and incident reports the same shift.
- Paperwork: timesheets should show exact hours per site and per shift, so your billing is simple.
- Client relationships: agree in writing that the partner will never approach your clients.
At Smart Route Systems we work under your name and procedures, send SIA licence details before the first shift, run a 24/7 control room with hourly welfare checks, and never approach your clients.
