Which SIA licence do I need for security work?
A quick guide for job seekers to the main front-line SIA licences and the roles they cover.

In the UK, most contract security work needs a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). The licence you need depends on the job.
- Security Guard licence for static, retail and mobile patrol work
- Door Supervisor licence for pubs, clubs, venues and events. It also lets you work as a security guard
- Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence for CCTV operators watching public areas
- Close Protection licence for protecting individuals
K9 dog handlers also need the right SIA licence for the role, and most clients expect a recognised dog handler qualification such as NASDU.
Licence rules and training requirements can change, so always check the official guidance on the SIA website before you book training.
